Cultivating a Life of Abiding in God’s Word
There are 1189 chapters in the Bible. That means if you read 4 chapters a day you could read the Bible in a year while missing/taking a break 65+ days. If you read 2 chapters a day, you could read the Bible over 2 years. The Psalms can be read monthly by reading about 5 Psalms a day. Many books of the Bible can easily be read by dividing them over a week or month (one chapter a day).
I've assembled a few recommended Bible-reading plans below. No plan is better than another; the right one is the one you like and are able to stick with. I have yet to meet someone who expressed regret at taking the time to read through Scripture in its entirety!
Some of these plans are for the whole Bible (in a year), but that's quite ambitious. If you want to go a little more slowly, then try to read only the New Testament in a year, and then maybe the Old Testament in the next year. You can, of course, start at any time of the year. The important thing is that you start.
These plans are meant to compliment your daily use of the Congregation at Prayer, which is a brief devotion for our parish life. Regular, consistent study of God's Word will benefit your hearing of preaching, interaction with teaching, and the Spirit's application of the Word to your life.
