Gospel of St. John – Chapter 14:18-31 – Sunday Bible Study, November, 2020
18 “I will not leave you orphans” – What is said of the sending of the Spirit is also said of Jesus himself. In 13:33 Jesus calls His disciples “children,” but He is not their Father.

Bible Study: John 13:20-38
18-20 “I do not speak concerning all of you” – A new transition introduced Judas as the betrayer, echoing v. “That the Scripture may be fulfilled” does not mean Jesus chose Judas to fulfill Scripture but rather “this happened/had to happen, so that…” The citation is from Psalm 41:9 and shows the treachery and faithless nature of His deed, forsaking an intimate fellowship.
